Highlights on Empty Sky (2011) a short film by J. Michael Vargas

Empty Sky is a lesbian short film written and directed by J. Michael Vargas. Brought together by music, two high school girls, Samantha and Taylor, begin a secret romantic affair. But when Taylor’s mom corners the girls, Taylor seems unwilling to protect the relationship, leaving Samantha to decide if it is worth her heartache to preserve it as she leaves for college. This was a sweet story with a disappointing end. The post production insisted a lot on organic colors which gives a fairy  appearance to the main characters. It might be planned, I just found it a little bit superficial. The two actresses are Maiara Walsh and Sarah Kathleen Rosen. This movie was produced by Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts and officially presented to BFI London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival (2013), Palm Springs International ShortFest (2012) and Gasparilla International Film Festival (2012). The music played all along Empty Sky is called Clair de lune from the french classical pianist Debussy.
