Keep an eye on Brown Girls, a web series by Fatimah Asghar & Sam Bailey

Ashley Ray-Harris recently posted an interesting article about Brown Girls on autostraddle. After seeing the trailer, I think its fair to say that this authentic work made by Fatimah Asghar (writter) & Sam Bailey (director) might have a significant echo in 2017. An important point to note: the project is backed by Open TV, an independant platform dedicated to artists who identify as queer, trans, cis-women and artists of color. Perhaps you remember that we’ve already mentioned this space after the release of Full Out, a web series set in the world of classical dance. Brown Girls “follows Leila, a South Asian-American writer just now owning her queerness, and her best friend Patricia, a sex-positive Black-American musician who is struggling to commit to anything: job, art and relationships. While the two women come from completely different backgrounds, their friendship is ultimately what they lean on to get through the messiness of their mid-twenties.” Leila and Patricia are portrayed by Nabila Hossain and Sonia Denis, you can find the full cast here, subscribe to their newsletter or explore the synopisis in more detail. Another way to know more about them is to go on tumblr.
