Keep an eye on Westworld, Supergirl and Black Mirror
Westworld is an HBO sci-fi series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The story is based on the eponym film of Michael Crichton released in 1973. Westworld is the name of a futuristic theme park recreating an American Far West’s universe in the 19th century. The place is populated by androids called “hosts”, which are reset at the end of each narrative loop. The visitors called “newcomers” can do whatever they want there, without any consequences. But following an update of androids program, the park’s leader are facing several bugs changing the behavior of robots. The cast is composed of Evan-Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Shannon Woodward and Angela Sarafyan inter alia. The first episodes showed a brief interaction between Elsie King and Clementine Pennyfeather. This playlist collects some interesting teasers that should give you a general idea of Westworld’s atmosphere.
Supergirl is a superhero television series developed by Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg. The second season will be released October 10, 2016 on The CW and include 22 episodes. We’ve recently been introduced to Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima), a lesbian detective for the National City Police Department who takes a special interest in the cases involving aliens and metahumans. I have a lot of expectations for this character, hoping that she’ll be more than a simple detective shown at work for the needs of a vague subplot. We will also be able to meet again with Alexandra Danvers (Chyler Leigh), the sexy sister of Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist).
Black Mirror is a British anthology series created by Charlie Brooker. As indicated by its name, the show features speculative fictions with dark or satirical themes exploring the impact of new technologies on human society. The eight episodes of the third season should be available on Netflix October 21, 2016. Many sources mention a sapphic romance in at least one episode called San Junipero. The story, set in an old fashion California, follows the young and impressionable Yorkie (a tomboyish Mackenzie Davis) as she weaves her way through the streets of a late-’80s seaside town desperately looking for excitement. Sparks fly in a dance club when she makes a connection with the alluring Kelly (Gugu Mbatha-Raw). But there is far more at stake in their encounter than a single night’s pleasure. There is no official trailer available yet, except this evasive teaser that leaves us in the dark, literally. Edit: the official trailer is finally out!
