New You, a sapphic song by Zolita
New You is a pop song about a past relationship of Zolita, where her lover became someone else, as well as about her anxiety over infidelity. “More specifically,” she says, “as a queer woman, the fear of a partner cheating with someone of the opposite gender.” It’s a self-directed video about looking for the signs of faithlessness and the traces of the person a lover once was. “This song is very emotionally charged for me, so it was important that I convey that by myself in the video,” said Zolita. “The video opens with me sitting on a stack of TVs replaying memories of the relationship, and throughout the video, I decide whether or not I should hex the cheatee.” The track New You is from her last album called Sappho.
