Portrait of a Marriage (1990)
Portrait of a Marriage is a British period drama conseived as a television miniseries of four episodes, each one considered as feature-length films. The complete work last 212 minutes in total. The story is based on the eponym novel of Nigel Nicolson. This is a melodrama detailing the real-life love affair between feminist writer Vita Sackville-West and novelist Violet Keppel against the backdrop of post-World War I England and opposition by Vita’s politician husband Harold Nicolson. Vita and Violet’s romantic relationship becomes increasingly obsessive which spawns destructive feelings of possessiveness and jealousy between them. The protagonists are potrayed by Janet McTeer, Harold Nicolson and Cathryn Harrison.
